LISBON — In addition to the state referendum election on Nov. 3, Lisbon will hold its annual municipal election and vote on two bond issues.
Lori Pomelow and Leon Bard are seeking the three-year at-large seat on the Town Council held by Michael Bowie.
In District I, Lisbon village, Mark Lunt and Jeffrey Ganong are seeking a three-year seat on the council being vacated by Janet Henry.
In District II, Lisbon Falls, Gordon Curtis, Michelle Swatsworth-Turmelle, Michael Bowie and Gregg Garrison are seeking a three-year seat on the council being vacated by Norma Wells.
Kennith Wells is challenging incumbent water commissioner Stanley Doughty Jr. for a three-year term.
Running unopposed are:
• Donald Fellows for the three-year at-large seat on the budget advisory board being vacated by Lori Pomelow.
• Kathi Yergin and Herbert “Pete” Reed for two three-year seats on the School Committee being vacated by Deborah Danuski and Janice Comber.
• George Caron for the three-year seat on the School Committee that had been vacated by Faye Ingersoll and filled by Robin Tupper by appointment until Nov. 3.
• Dorothy Fitzgerald for a three-year seat in Ward II on the budget advisory board being vacated by Walter Morse.
To be filled by write-in:
• One District II budget advisory board member for one year. The seat was formerly held by Richard Main.
• One District I budget advisory board member for three years seat, formerly held by Roger Cote and later by Donald Fellows, who was appointed until Nov. 3.
Bond issues
The first bond issue is to authorize the Town Council to issue up to $320,000 in a 10-year bond in order to receive up to $1.2 million in matching funds from the Maine Department of Transportation. It would be used to construct the final phase of the Lisbon Trail System, previously approved by the council. The council and budget advisory board recommend a yes vote.
The second bond question seeks approval to issue general obligation securities of the town to fund the construction of new water lines and system along Route 9 from Route 196 to Upland Road. It would remedy contamination of residential wells from Barker Brook up Upland Road to Route 9. The amount is not to exceed $1,720,000 for a term not to exceed 30 years, which has been approved by the Town Council. The council, budget advisory board and water commission recommend a yes vote.
The registrar of voters will be available Oct. 28, 29, 30, 31 and Nov. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the town clerk’s office and on Election Day, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at polling locations.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m through 8 p.m.
Voting in District I will be at the superintendent’s office at 19 Gartley St.
Voting in District II will be at the MTM Community Center gymnasium, 18 School St.
