Lorraine P. Holman
1927 – 2009
DIXFIELD — Lorraine P. Holman, 82, formerly of Dixfield, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, at her residence at the Russell Park Manor, Lewiston, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Rumford on April 15, 1927, a daughter of Alphey and Doris (DeWitt) Poulin, and graduated from Stephen’s High School in Rumford, Class of 1945.
She and Harold made their home in Augusta when they were first married and then moved to Dixfield in 1947. She was a homemaker and mother most of her life, which was her heart’s desire. She did some light housekeeping for family and friends and took her first job at the Dixfield Elementary School. She continued in the work force at Family Planning in Rumford, Puiia Hardware and Lumber and finally at Diamond Match, retiring in 1992.
She belonged to many organizations, including the Economic Development Council, Dixfield Social Club, Club 8, Mother’s Club, Dixfield Historical Society, the Sunday Wonders and Bomberettes Bowling Leagues, and was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church, serving in nearly every capacity except the pulpit. She even made an edition of the USA Weekend several years ago by making and delivering 30 loaves of bread to shut-ins on Make a Difference Day. She had a great love for her church and never tired of serving it.
She was a very strong and courageous woman, raising three young sons all alone after the passing of her husband and was also very deep feeling and thinking, having put down her love for her family in the form of poetry.
She was able to spend many winters in Hawaii, living with her oldest son Tim, but was always ready to come back home. She always enjoyed the many birthday parties and outings with her sisters Marie, Alice, Sylvia and Kareen.
She loved cooking, reading, many forms of needlework, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was noted for her Christmas Eve parties, open to all family and friends.
She was a very loving grandmother and great grandmother, attending as many of the grandchildren’s activities as she could, as well as having them in her home for sleepovers and fun.
She was married in Rumford on Aug. 11, 1946 to Harold B. Holman, Jr. who died May 28, 1967.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by daughter Crystal Farwell and her husband, Russell, of Greene; sons Timothy Holman of Thailand, James Holman and his wife, Paula, of Dixfield and David Holman of Dixfield; sister Kareen Clohosey of Wilton; Grandchildren Kelli Parsons and her husband Michael, Jennifer Garrity and her husband Christopher, Michelle Guerrero and her husband Robert, Jason Holman, Beth Holman, Jennifer Gray, Gary Holman and T.J. Holman; and great-grandchildren Anthony Bourgoin, Taylor Kennedy, Connor Garrity, Rogan Garrity, Emily Holman and Braydon Holman.
She was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.
The Holman family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Russell Park Rehab Center for the care and support for Mom and her family during this difficult time. Also thanks to Androscoggin Home Hospice for their comforting care.
