Muriel L. Fortier
1934 – 2009

SCARBOROUGH — Muriel Louise Fortier, 75, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Oct. 24 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1934, in New Gloucester, to Eleanor Mott and Wallace Bragdon. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1952 as the valedictorian of her class.

She married Charles Fortier on May 29, 1957, at the Congregational Church in New Gloucester. During high school she worked at Watson Grove. After high school she worked at Lown Shoe Company in the office. After she was married, she was the manager of the snack bar at Mammoth Mart and worked summers at Starlight Restaurant. Muriel retired as director of the school lunch, after 32 years of service to the consolidated schools of Old Orchard Beach.

She was an active member of the United Baptist Church of Saco. Her family and friends remember her love and generosity, as well as her great cooking.

Muriel is survived by her husband, Charles; her sister, Margaret “Peggy” and her husband, Merle Kennedy; her brother, Wallace Bragdon, Jr. and his wife, Dolly; several nephews and nieces, brother and sisters-in-law; her adopted grandchildren and many friends.

She was predeceased by her son, Charles “Chuckie” Fortier, Jr. in 1988, her parents and her brothers, Edwin, Charles, Harrison, Kenneth, Alden Avery and Sidney.


FORTIER — Died in Scarborough, Oct. 24, 2009, Muriel Louise Fortier, age 75, formerly of New Gloucester. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the United Baptist Church of Saco. Dr. Burton Howe will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
