100 years ago, 1909

Members of the Maine State Teachers Association have come in throngs to Lewiston and Auburn to attend the annual convention, fully 2,000 being here. The session opened yesterday afternoon with A. J. Roberts, president of Colby College, in the chair. There were several good addresses. In the evening, Dr. Frank DeWitt Talmage of Philadelphia, held the close attention of the big audience, many of whom were obliged to stand. Dr. Talmage is a magnetic speaker. 

50 years ago, 1959

Its days are numbered and the numbers end on Saturday.

That’s what police say and they point to the numbers of cars still trundling along with old state inspection stickers on them.

The new stickers must be displayed by midnight Saturday, or the cars must be kept stabled until the new semi-annual inspection sticker is affixed to the windshield.

25 years ago, 1984

The Lewiston-Auburn Richelieu Club honored immediate past president Roger Philippon this week. Presenting the past president plaque and pin was the assistant governor, Raymond Morin of Yarmouth. Among those participating were Lucien Gosselin, master of ceremonies; Mario and Diane Gendron; and Roger and Celeste Philippon.
