FARMINGTON — A logger from Strong was listed in stable condition Thursday night at a Lewiston hospital with an injury caused from a tree falling on his leg in woods off Route 4 earlier in the day.

Rodney Dyar of Route 4 was flown to Central Maine Medical Center after the 10:30 a.m. accident, which occurred more than a mile into the woods. It took rescuers almost two hours to get him out to the highway. From there he was taken by NorthStar ambulance to the Fairbanks Little League field to meet the LifeFlight helicopter.

Dyar was working with his son, who called 911 and met the first responders at Route 4, Fire Chief Terry Bell said. Pickup trucks took emergency personnel part of the way in on the muddy dirt road before they were forced to walk the rest of the way, he said. An ATV from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department ferried medical supplies to the scene.

Charles Bennett of Farmington, who lives about a mile south of Dyar’s home, shuttled ambulance personnel up the dirt road in his truck. Farmington Fire and Rescue carried Dyar part of the way out, then the ATV shuttled him to Bennett’s pickup truck which took him out to Route 4.

Officers from the Farmington Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the rescue.
