LEWISTON — Mayoral challenger Mark Paradis has raised $3,965 in his bid to unseat Larry Gilbert — nearly twice what Gilbert has raised so far in his re-election bid.
Paradis also has spent more money: $2,996 in advertisements and campaign signs to Gilbert’s $1,438.
Candidates for elected office in Lewiston filed their early finance reports to the City Clerk’s Office on Wednesday afternoon. Those reports spell out the fundraising and campaign spending up to the last week before Tuesday’s vote.
“It won’t include any last-minute spending, for a last-minute push, if there is one,” City Clerk Kathy Montejo said. Final reports detailing all of a candidate’s spending are due to her office by Dec. 15.
Lewiston’s Mayoral candidates so far have mounted the richest campaigns. Paradis has raised money from 27 donors, compared to Gilbert’s 10.
Gilbert’s campaign has spent money on advertising but not on signs. He used signs from his previous mayoral campaigns.
Ward 1 council candidate John Butler is running the third-costliest campaign this year, taking in $956 in donations and spending that much for signs, ads and campaign materials. Ward 1 candidate Stanley Pelletier has spent $296 of his own money and Doug Stone, the third Ward 1 candidate, registered no campaign spending.
In Ward 2, candidate Don D’Auteuil has spent $724 for his campaign and has taken in $420 in donations. Ward 2’s Doreen Christ has spent $36 of her own money for printing; and former Councilor Renee Bernier, also seeking the Ward 2 seat, has taken in no money and has spent none.
Ward 4 challenger Ron Jean has raised $860 toward his campaign, spending $856 of that on ads, signs and printing. Ward 4 incumbent Denis Theriault has spent $20 to defend his seat.
In Ward 6, candidate David Dunn has barely outspent his opponent, Mark Cayer. Dunn has spent $392 of his own money. Cayer has spent $349.
Stephen Morgan, the sole Ward 7 candidate, has spent $407 and raised $420 from three donors.
Candidates in the uncontested wards — Larry Poulin in Ward 3 and Tina Bailey in Ward 5 — were not required to file campaign finance reports.
