RUMFORD — Black Mountain of Maine will host the seventh annual Black
Mountain Trail Races/Walks on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the ski lodge.
Plans also include hayrides and previews of Halloween costumes with
prizes.
The 5K race/walk and 1K fun run will tour the runners and walkers
around the cross country trails at the mountain with an opportunity to
view the fields and woods that surround the area. Participants are
encouraged to run in their Halloween costume for special awards. Awards
will also be presented for overall winners as well as for age group
performance.
Trail race registration will be held from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at race
headquarters. The 5K race will start at 9 a.m. and the 1K race at 9:30
a.m. The race awards and raffle will be held at 10 a.m. The lodge will
be open and food will be served at the cafe. Hayrides will begin at 11
a.m. and Jeremy Volkernick will offer sausage samples.
The lodge office will be open all day for families planning to
purchase season ski passes. The mountain ski patrol will also promote
their raffle for a full season pass. Proceeds will support the ski
patrol program.
Young people and parents are encouraged to bring their Halloween
costumes to the mountain for a preview/review. Prizes will be awarded
in several categories.
