As everyone knows, Social Security is in trouble. I don’t believe that anything can help, the final outcome — going broke — can only be delayed.

Back in the 1990s, I had sent these recommendations to my senators: That the cap of Social Security should be removed; that employee/employer pay a 6 percent tax each; and a new scale of payout should be implemented, especially to those who are on the lower end of the scale. I believe those in that situation should receive more than they are currently receiving. Also, that the Medicare tax should be at 3 percent, not 2.9 percent and, of course, not capped, either (I realize that Medicare is not currently capped).

If Congress would spend more time on waste and fraud from Medicare, it could save billions of dollars a year. My question is, why doesn’t it?
