LEWISTON — Winter is a time of limited daylight, with the Winter Solstice being the shortest day of the year. Creativity is a way to illuminate the darkness and appreciate what the season has to offer. L/A Arts invites the community to an opening reception of Winter Light, a fine arts exhibition celebrating the approaching winter season. Local artists will showcase their interpretations of what winter in Maine means to them, with a stunning variety of artwork. The reception is on Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at L/A Arts Gallery 5. The public is welcome.
The featured jeweler of Winter Light is Cathy Heinz, an artist who began her jewelry career after working in the Information Technology field, and studied at the Maine College of Art. Her Clovers collection includes lovely, elegant gold and silver clovers with pearl centers. The collection has a decidedly feminine look married with a fresh, modern design. The Terrain collection, inspired by the rugged coastline of Maine, juxtaposes two kinds of beauty — earthy, organic texture and the sleek sophistication of gleaming metals and pearls. Inspired by color, form and movement, her work will fill the jewelry case for the Winter Light exhibit.
As a multi-venue exhibition, artwork was chosen for both Gallery 5 at 49 Lisbon St. and the Community Gallery in the L/A Arts Office, located at 221 Lisbon St. In addition to the opening reception at Gallery 5, Winter Light will have an open house for artists featured at the Community Gallery, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
