A banner that was hung during a parade in New York City marking the end of World War II in 1945, now graces a wall at the VFW Hall Post 3335 in Jay. World War II veterans, seated from left, Eugene Roy and Don LeSuer, both of Jay, and Erlon Rose of Livermore Falls, and Roland Therrien of Jay, were all still on active duty when the parade was held. Standing in back near the banner are Joe Barbioni of Mount Vernon, left, the commander of the Western Maine Young Marines that donated the banner to the VFW, and VFW Commander John Judd. Both Barbioni and Judd are Vietnam War veterans.
