LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a free workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers interested in the benefits of acupuncture. The workshop will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 12 High Street, Conference Room I, on the CMMC campus.
Dr. David Salko, a Central Maine Family Practice physician and certified medical acupuncturist, will discuss the principles and benefits of acupuncture and how the treatment may enhance well-being during cancer treatment and recovery.
Acupuncture has been supported with evidence-based studies for specific symptoms related to cancer care and treatment. The procedure is gaining acceptance for the treatment and support of many medical conditions.
“The use of alternative or complimentary treatments is a growing trend in our western society,” said Salko. “This presentation is intended to increase awareness and understanding of the utility of acupuncture.”
