Notices were posted in all the Lewiston mills notifying all persons interested in the establishment of a vocational or textile school in Lewiston that they are requested to meet at the Board of Trade rooms, 124 Lisbon St., Friday evening, Nov. 12 at 8 o’clock. It is expected that a large number of operatives will be present.

Let it snow and blow, the Lewiston Public Works Department is ready to go.
Its 22 snow plowing units — 17 street plows and five sidewalk rigs — have all been checked out and where needed repaired or repainted. The work has been going on for the past few weeks at the PWD yard on Willow Street. Everything is ready to roll, reports PWD Director George J. Mahar.

SABATTUS — A career policeman who was Marilyn Monroe’s first husband has chalked up his first victory in politics, winning a seat as a county commissioner in Maine.
James E. Dougherty ran unopposed Tuesday in his second political race. He lost a bid for town selectman shortly after he moved to Maine six years ago.
The California native was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department for 25 years.
In June 1942, Dougherty, then 21, married a 16-year-old who went on to become one of the most famous screen stars of her day.
