When are individuals going to grow up, mature and realize that we live in a democracy? People decide, through elections, numerous issues. We may not always agree with the outcome, but we have to accept the will of the majority.
Question 1 created a lot of bad blood between citizens on both sides of the issue. It’s time for everyone to get on with their lives and not keep complaining and criticizing. If our forefathers had wanted to recognize gay marriage, the laws would not have been written identifying marriage as between a man and a woman and, therefore, would not need to be changed.
This issue has been defeated numerous times now and, hopefully, will not keep resurfacing. Maine is not the only state to vote against gay marriage, but is ahead of others by recognizing civil unions. So, why not broaden the definition and rights of civil unions and try to satisfy most people?
Common sense says that you can’t please everyone, but let’s stop attacking each other, take a step back, rethink the issue and try to find level ground.
