Phyllis and Douglas Briggs

POLAND — Douglas and Phyllis (Richard) Briggs of Poland recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 26, 1959, in Madison.

They have four children, Brian and his partner, Terry Girouard, Lori Simpson and her partner, Brian Tyler, Leisa Brooks and husband, Jeff, and Bruce and his wife, Anne. They also have five grandchildren, Nate Simpson and his wife, Casey, Derek Simpson, Ben Briggs, Emily Briggs and Lauren Briggs. They also have two step-grandchildren, Casey Brooks and Iris Araya, two great-grandchildren, Elyse Simpson and Sam Simpson, and one step-great-grandchild, Danae Araya.

A celebration was held at the home of their son, Brian, in Poland on Sept. 19 that was planned by their children. Many relatives and friends from Madison, Skowhegan, Norridgewock, Portland, Farmington, Old Orchard Beach, Gray, Freeport and Westbrook attended the special event.

Wedding pictures and pictures of friends and relatives were featured on a plaque and and were displayed for everyone to see. A barbecue was enjoyed by everyone and a 50th anniversary cake was served.
