LEWISTON — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Ramada Inn. A social half hour will be followed by lunch at noon. After the speaker there will be a short business meeting and a report from the group’s Legislative Committee members on recent news, information and updates regarding NARFE concerns, federal and statewide.

The speaker will be David J. Gudas, who will present a program on Lewiston-Auburn history with photos of the cities taken in the middle to late 1800s depicting the way the two cities appeared during that time. Most of the images were acquired from the archives of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission in Augusta, through the cooperation and assistance of State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth Jr.

Since 1999, Gudas has held the position of personal computer coordinator for the City of Lewiston. Originally from Rhode Island, he moved to Lewiston when he was 20 to take a position as a patrol officer for the Lewiston Police Department. He graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and completed a full career with the Lewiston Police Department, retiring in 1998 as a detective/youth officer after 22 years of service.

He is married with two grown children and his hobbies are computers and traveling. He is an avid Lewiston Maineiacs Hockey fan.

Members attending are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the meeting to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul for distribution to needy children.

Plans for the meeting were made at a recent board meeting held at the home of Vi Dumais. Attending the meeting were Richard St. Armand, chapter president, and Martha Robinson, program coordinator.

New members are welcome. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association is for active and retired employees, spouses, surviving spouses and former spouses who are legally eligible for a federal or survivor annuity. For more information, log on to www.NARFE.org.
