SABATTUS — Less than halfway into the fiscal year, the town of Sabattus has spent $77 more than it budgeted for legal expenses, according to a town official.

“For the year, we had budgeted $4,500 and we’ve so far spent $4,577; so we’re over-budget on that,” Town Clerk Suzanne Adams said. The town budget began July 1 and runs until June 30, Adams said.

According to legal records distributed at the most recent town meeting held Tuesday, most of the expenses are tied to circumstances surrounding the departure of former Town Manager Gregory Gill, who resigned Sept. 1.

A group of concerned citizens, lead by Norm LaPlante of Sabattus, requested the legal records in an attempt to find out more about the reasons for Gill’s resignation.

The town of Sabattus’ selectmen’s meeting scheduled for next Tuesday has been cancelled, according to the town office. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 6:30 at the town office.
