Charles C. Felker

1931-2009

Auburn — Charles C. Felker Sr., 78, died on Nov. 15, after a short stay at the Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born in Poland on March 4, 1931, the son of Herbert, Sr. & Alice (Strout) Felker.

He attended schools in Poland and Mechanic Falls, and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1950.

On Jan. 9, 1954, he married Lorraine Culleton. The same year, he enlisted in the army and served two years in Korea before his discharge. He worked at Bates Mill before co-owning and operating C & C Service Station in Mechanic Falls for over 35 years. He retired in the early 90s because of ill health. His business and his customers were one of the greatest joys of his life.

He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and his rose bushes and peonies. In his earlier years, he enjoyed his camp on Hogan Pond, water-skiing, fishing, hunting and traveling. He enjoyed wintering in Florida with his friends until his health prevented him from traveling.

Family gatherings were special to him. He loved life to the fullest and fought until the end.

He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He just received his 40 year pin from the American Legion Post #150. He also was a member of the Tyrian Lodge #73, AF & AM, and the VFW. He was a past member of the Kora Temple Shriners.

Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years; two daughters, Melody Needham and husband, Michael, of Mechanic Falls, Joy Beaupre Campbell and husband, Roger, of Livermore; one son, Charles Felker Jr. and wife, Dale, of Waterville; six grandchildren, Brett Needham of New Gloucester, Brian Needham of Gray, Amy Austin of Waterville, Tracy Belanger of Brunswick, Jessica Libby of Waterville, and Callie Beaupre of Livermore; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Richardson and husband, Henry, of Bath; and a brother, Raymond Felker and wife, MaryLou, of Poland.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Herbert and Irving; and sisters, Evelyn, Beatrice and Olive.

The family extends special thanks to the Hospice House in Auburn, and the nurses and doctors of Central Maine Medical Center.
