KINGFIELD — The Sunday School children at King’s Valley Chapel presented $915 to two food pantries and a homeless shelter recently. The money represented funds that they had raised through the Walk for Hope in October.
The Walk for Hope, a project of the Sunday school, was a five-mile walk on the public nature trails at Franklin Memorial Hospital on Oct. 10. The walk raised money through contributions by individual and business sponsors.
Hope Haven Gospel Mission, a soup kitchen and homeless shelter in Lewiston, was presented with $457.50; $228.75 was presented to Care and Share Food Pantry in Fairbanks, which serves the Farmington area; and $228.75 was presented to the Economic Ministry’s food pantry in Salem, which serves Kingfield and other area towns.
“These funds came at a very good time,” said Pastor Ron Meldrum, chairman of the board for Hope Haven. “The winter season is upon us, and Hope Haven and the food pantries experience much higher demand during the cold season. The declining economy means that more people are seeking our services and, in many cases, people who supported us in the past are less able support us now. It is gratifying to see these children raise so much support for the local organizations which serve our friends, family, and neighbors.”
King’s Valley Chapel is a doctrinally Baptist church on Salem Road. More information about the church and the Walk for Hope can be found at www.KingsValleyChapel.org.
