DIXFIELD — Maine author Carrie Jones will speak to Dirigo High School English class students and others who would like to learn about life as a working author on Monday, Nov. 23,
in the school library.

Born in Manchester, N.H. in 1971, Jones worked as a advocate for political and social causes during her high school years. She then majored in political science and graduated from Bates College. Always nurturing a love of writing, she went on to get her MFA from Vermont College.

Jones has worked as an editor and reporter for the Ellsworth Weekly and as a reporter for the Ellsworth American and Bar Harbor Times.

She is the author of five young adult novels: “Girl, Hero”; “Love (and other uses for duct tape)”; “Tips on having a gay (ex) boyfriend,” which was nominated for a Young Adults Library Services Association Quick Pick and won the Maine Literary Award; “Need”; and “Captivate,” which will be available in January. She lives with her husband, daughter and dog in Ellsworth.

Jones is one of a series of artists who have presented at Dirigo High School since 2005. Other authors include Chinese author Chun Yu, Deborah Noyes, Baron Wormser, Robert Shetterly, Don Fendler and Robin MacCready.
