AUBURN — The city of Auburn will hold a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, for the new flagpole and flags in front of Auburn Hall. Slated for dedication are the American flag, Maine state flag, the city flag and the POW/MIA flag.
The ceremony will be held in front of Auburn Hallon Court Street. Traffic on that portion of Court will be closed during the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
The dedication will include speeches, presentations by the Auburn Fire Department Honor Guard, Auburn Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marine Corps. Edward Little High School senior Christopher Camire will also perform.
The flag project took shape earlier this spring when City Councilor Ray Berube suggested that the city launch a community project to raise money for the flagpole and flags through donations. The goal is to raise at least $10,000 for purchase and maintenance of new flags; more than $5,000 has been raised.
To contribute to the Flag Project, call committee member Ed Desgrosseilliers at 777-3125, or Auburn Hall, 333-6600.
