Doris Poisson

1921-2009

AUBURN — Doris Marie Poisson, 88, of North Turner, passed away quietly Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Hospice House.

Doris was born in Rumford on August 7, 1921, the daughter of Levi and Adeline Gallant.

She was a wife and homemaker for Henry, her husband of 62 years, and their four children.

She traveled many miles in her lifetime; following her husband to Germany in 1948 with their eldest son. While Henry was stationed in Germany, she gave birth to twin sons and a daughter. Doris and Henry also lived in Missouri, Connecticut, Wisconsin and California before settling in their home state of Maine. For 20 years they became ‘snow birds’ — traveling to Florida in the winter.

She was “Mom” to everyone, with a heart of gold; always a source of great advice and more often a great listener. She loved her seven grandsons and was thrilled to have four great-grandchildren.

Music was also one of her many joys in life.

Doris is survived by her husband, Henry B. Poisson, of North Turner; children, Douglas Flanagan of California and daughter-in-law Kay Flanagan of Minot, John Poisson and wife, Rhonda, of Auburn, Joseph Poisson and wife, Maureen, of Jay, Cheryl Poisson Washburn of Gray, and Stephen Lunt of New Gloucester; grandsons Chris Flanagan and wife, Sarah, of Texas, Jarrett Poisson and wife, Jackey Bailey, of Poland Springs, Travis Poisson and wife, Nichole, of Auburn, Ross Poisson and Becky Kennison of Canton, Brett Poisson and wife, Sarah, of Jay, Tim Washburn and Melissa Blanchard of Portland, and Kevin Washburn of Gray; great-grandchildren Aidan and Brendan Flanagan of Texas, and Elicia and Daxtyn Poisson of Jay; sister, Juliette Berry of Rumford; and her nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her brother, William S. Gallant, in 1973.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice House for their special care and service.
