POLAND — A family of five were burned out of their home on Edwards Road on Friday morning. No one was hurt and the cause has not been determined, fire Chief Mark Bosse said.

  A neighbor who saw the home in flames at about 10:30 a.m. rushed to make sure the family was out and suffered smoke inhalation when he opened the front door and heat rushed out. The man was treated at a hospital and released. Fire officials said nobody was inside the mobile home at 10 Edwards Road when it caught fire.

The home is normally occupied by three adults and two children, ages 4 years and 22 months. Their names were not available.

Fire crews from a half-dozen towns battled the fire but in the end, it was a total loss. Bosse called the local chapter of the American Red Cross, which was helping the family with food and lodging.

Bosse said there were no immediate signs that the fire was suspicious. However, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to join the investigation. The cause has not been determined.
