DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column every day — a lot of nice information. Please find out for me why the Yankees baseball team does not have the names on the back of their uniforms. I watch a lot of baseball, and all the other teams have their names on their uniforms. — No Name, Mexico

ANSWER: Sun Spots can’t verify the answer that she found on the Internet, but here it is. From www.funtrivia.com:

“In 1929, the New York Yankees became the first team to make numbers a permanent part of the uniform. Numbers were handed out based on the order in the lineup. In 1929, Earle Combs wore No. 1, Mark Koenig No. 2, Babe Ruth No. 3, Lou Gehrig No. 4, Bob Meusel No. 5, Tony Lazzeri No. 6, Leo Durocher No. 7, Johnny Grabowski No. 8, Benny Bengough No. 9, and Bill Dickey No. 10. While other teams began putting names on the backs of jerseys in the 1960s, the Yankees did not follow the trend. Many companies create jerseys with Yankee names sewn on the back for fans to purchase, but no official Yankee uniform has ever had names on the back. They are also one of the few teams in Major League Baseball to shun the trend of creating a “third jersey.” The team has never issued No. 0 or No. 00.” (posted by baseball.wikia.com/wiki/New_York_Yankees)

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I notice on my way to work in Augusta they are building a new building off of the turnpike by mile 108 just before the Augusta exit. I was curious as to what it is going to be. Can you find out? Thanks. — Curious Reader, Monmouth

ANSWER: That building is actually in Hallowell rather than Augusta. Sun Spots spoke with Todd Shea, Hallowell’s code enforcement officer. He said that the new building belongs to NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of Florida Power & Light, and will be their northeast headquarters.
