AVON — A homeowner who reported a theft of firearms and money from his Rangeley Road residence last week has been charged with a misdemeanor of giving a false public alarm or report.
Michael H. Rackliffe, 36, reported a burglary and theft of property including guns and cash estimated at $4,000 from his Route 4 home on Nov. 15.
He told police he came home at about 4 p.m. to discover the house had been gone through, searched and the items were missing, said Lt. Niles Yeaton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy Sheriff Heidi Gould investigated the reported crime and during a second subsequent interview, Rackliffe admitted to the false report.
Five weapons and an undisclosed amount of cash were reported taken from the home located near Lindbergh Airport while he was motorcycling and away for about six hours.
