Edward Noah Butler Jr.
1920 – 2009
BRUNSWICK — Edward Noah Butler Jr., 89, lifelong resident of Free Street in Lisbon Falls died peacefully with his family surrounding him on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Midcoast Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1920, in his parent’s home on Free Street, where he has spent his entire life. He was the son of Edward N. and Anna (Grund) Butler. He was educated in Lisbon Falls schools and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School, Class of 1938. He also completed a two-year program (in one year) at Bliss Business School in Lewiston.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. His occupation in the military was as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer.
He was employed for more than 20 years at the Pejepscot Mill in Topsham, where he was a store house superintendant. He had also worked at Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls.
He was an active member of many civic and military organizations including the Nelson Conley Post 66 of the American Legion of Lisbon Falls, 32nd Degree member of the Ancient York Lodge 155 of Lisbon Falls, Kora Shrine Temple of Lewiston, Order of Eastern Star of Lisbon Falls, and was also a member of the Lisbon Historical Society.
He was an avid golfer and longtime member at Apple Valley Golf Club in Lewiston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and also enjoyed taking his wife out dancing on Saturday nights. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the piano.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Anna (Woodcock) Butler of Lisbon Falls; three stepchildren, Dale E. and his wife, Karen McElhaney, of Durham, Diane M. and her husband, Bob Maurer, of Darien, Conn., and Richard H. McElhaney of West Gardiner; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
