100 years ago, 1909

Prisoners very nearly out numbered the spectators in the Lewiston municipal court Monday morning when 18 drunks, collected over Sunday, were arraigned before Judge Cornish. Sunday’s warm weather was evidently too much for the thirsty ones, or else the effects of Harvard’s defeat at the hands of Yale were far-reaching.

50 years ago, 1959

A Lewiston businessman found himself surrounded by police officers early this morning.

The LPD got a tip from an anonymous caller that a man was entering a Main Street business establishment through a window. Police went into action and within a few moments the place was surrounded by officers of the law. Nine policemen got there in seconds.

The businessman was taken by surprise, to put it mildly. He told the LPD he had left his keys inside and was going back after them.

25 years ago, 1984

Linwood Bradford of West Bowdoinham will present an illustrated talk on Alaska at the Thursday noon meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at Steckino’s Heritage House in Lewiston.

Bradford will highlight his recent trip through the Western United States and Alaska. The University of Maine graduate was field superintendent for C.T. Perkins Engineering in Peabody, Mass., production manager for Harpswell House in Brunswick, and for 16 years a vocational teacher.
