LEWISTON — The SeniorsPlus Education Center, 8 Falcon Road, will offer the following classes in December:
“Caregiving: Managing Challenging Behaviors,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1. Behavioral symptoms are among the most difficult aspects of caring for people with dementia. Participants will learn some helpful techniques at the workshop by the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter. Kathryn Pears will present.
“Bellydancing,” from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Dec. 2 through 30. Cost is $40.
Bellydancing is a dance movement class that focuses on the core stomach muscles while listening to Middle Eastern rhythms. It will be a small class and movements will be geared especially for older adults to strengthen core stomach muscles, improve balance and physical awareness. Lisa Cummings will instruct.
“Gentle Yoga,” from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4. Cost is $10.
The flowing style of yoga combines deep breathing with a set of sequences of moves that calms and strengthens. Heidi L. Audet will instruct.
“Caregiving: Living with Dementia during the Holidays,” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7.
The holidays can be stressful for anyone, but even more overwhelming for individuals and loved ones living with dementia. Attendees will learn some creative ideas for making the holidays enjoyable for everyone. Presenter will be David Currier, The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter.
“AARP Safe Driving Course,” from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8. Cost is $14.
A refresher driving safety course for those 50 and older. Participants will qualify for an insurance discount.
“Elder Abuse Task Force Workshop,” from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 9.
The session will focus on understanding the dynamics of abuse, what to look for and what to do if someone is at risk in their relationship. Presented by Kelley Glidden, Abused Women’s Advocacy Project.
Also to be discussed during the workshop will be “Senior Safety and Fighting Back Against Fraud.” The session will discuss safety issues at home, on the street and how to protect people from being scammed, online, through the mail and door to door. The importance of reporting crimes will be discussed. Presented by Lee Jones, Lewiston Police Department.
“Beadaful Creations,” from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. Cost is $10 and includes all materials. Participant will learn how to bead a necklace to keep. Instructor will be Sandi Godin.
“Elder Abuse Task Force Workshop,” from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 16. The workshop will discuss the financial exploitation of elders. It will enable participants to identify signs of financial exploitation and provide resources available to prevent and/or stop this form of elder abuse. Presented by Brianne Martin, Legal Services for the Elderly.
Also to be discussed during the workhop will be “Sexual Assault/Sexual Abuse.” The session will focus on learning about the impact on elders when sexual abuse or a sexual assault occurs, what help is available and what everyone should know to recognize and respond to this crime. Presented by Keri Myrick, Sexual Assault Crisis Center.
“Introduction to Facebook,” from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18. An introduction to what it is, how to create a profile, e-mail friends and family and how to be safe when online.

“Excel One-on-One Training,” from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. weeknights, by appointment. Linwood Flick, from SeniorsPlus, will work privately with anyone interested in learning Microsoft’s Excel program for making budgets, setting up graphs, etc.
An Alzheimer’s Support Group meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month No preregistration required.
