This is in response to a letter from Arthur Raymond, printed Nov. 18, regarding the Veterans Day observance.

Last year when the dedication of the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge was being planned, it was discovered that Lewiston High School no longer had a “marching band” and, in fact, there was one member of the Edward Little marching band from Lewiston High School. As far as I know that is still the case.

In talking with Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert before Veterans Day, he told me that he was going to be in Canada. Knowing Mayor Gilbert, he would never miss an opportunity to honor veterans. He was present at Edward Little High School last year to see off  National Guard troops when they were being deployed overseas. He wrote a moving story about that experience in his weekly article in the Twin City Times.

I know that it is his documented history to always be there to honor veterans when he is, in fact, in town.

While I personally honor Raymond’s service to the country, I would hope he would have done more research before writing a letter to be published in the Sun Journal.
