JAMES D. TONOLINI
1931-2009
GREENWOOD – James D. Tonolini, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 26, at his home in Greenwood, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Jerome, Penn., on July 12, 1931, he was a son of Jack and Mary (Ferre) Tonolini. He attended schools in Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He then worked in Pennsylvania coal mines for 2 ½ years. In 1955, he moved to Maine — where he worked for Oxford Paper Company for over 38 years. He retired as a machine tender in 1993 from Boise Cascade.
Jim was a communicant of the Parish Of The Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St John Church, and a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion. He enjoyed life, dancing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He also loved any outdoor activity, cooking and spending time at his home on Indian Pond.
He was married in Mexico on Aug. 8, 1953, to the late Lorette Martineau, who died in Rumford on June 16, 1975. He then married Sylvia Ann Cushman Martin in Greenwood on Sept. 7, 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Tonolini of Greenwood; a son, James Tonolini Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Tina Payton and her husband, Mike, of Mexico, and Linda Tonolini and her companion, Steve, of Lake Worth, Fla.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Beryle Martin and her husband, Eric Cobb, of Auburn, and Angela Lepore and her husband, Darin, of Saco; a stepson, Tony Martin of South Paris; five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Lester Burnell of Somerset, Penn.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Nina Sopich; and a brother, Lewis Tonolini.
