LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s annual pet food drop will be under way on Friday, Nov. 27, at the Shaw’s Supermarkets in both Lewiston and Auburn and Starbucks in Auburn. The three stores will have drop boxes available for donations of pet food and supplies until Thursday, Dec. 24.

The shelter relies heavily on the donations by the community of food and supplies for the animals that it cares for. More than 100 pounds of dog food and 70 pounds of cat food are needed daily to feed the nearly 5,500 animals who pass through the shelter’s doors.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a safe haven for homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of citizens.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. Those interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal may call 783-2311 or visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org. To join the society on Facebook, go to www.facebook/GAHumane.
