Richard L. Gray
1942 – 2009
AUBURN — Richard L. Gray (“Bub”,”Bubby”) of Chesterville died Nov. 26, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Rangeley, Nov. 13, 1942, the son of Richard and Vertie (Collins) Gray. He was educated in Farmington schools and graduated from Farmington High School.
In 1963, he married the former Elaine Farnham, who predeceased him in 2008. He was employed for 20 years at IP before starting his own business R.L. Gray Concrete Construction, he sold in 1998, he then started R.L.Gray Earthwork and ran that business until his retirement due to illness this year.
He was briefly a member of the ELKS and Country Ramblers Snowmobile Club. He was a hard worker, enjoyed building projects, outdoor activities, the Farmington Diner and spending time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his mother, Vertie Gray Moody of Chesterville; two sons, Scott R. Gray and his wife, Kelly, of Chesterville and Barry L. Gray of Augusta; two brothers, Mark Gray and his wife, Linda, of Florida, and David Gray and his wife, Deborah, of Chesterville; five sisters, Joann Bean of Rangeley, Peggy Wing and her husband, Danny, of Wilton, Susanne Harris and her husband, Leo, of Jay, Judy Hall and her husband, Charlie, of Florida, and Mary Kneeland and her husband, Ernest, of Dexter; two granddaughters, Megan and Erin Gray; one great-grandson, Christopher Smith; and a special friend, Willa House of Kentucky.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Gray; and his father, Richard Gray.
