NORWAY — WOXO-FM 92.7 has received permission from the Federal Communications Commission to increase its power from an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts to 25,000 watts, according to owner Dick Gleason. The boost will strengthen the signal to many parts of Maine, including Lewiston-Auburn and most of Oxford County.
“Our new signal changes our local coverage from 41,000 people to over 147,000 and that’s only the first 25 miles. The overall signal will go 60 miles, from New Hampshire to the Maine Coast,” said Gleason, who has owned the station since 1975.
The cost of the project was nearly $100,000, and Gleason said he was pleased that almost all of it was done by businesses with Maine connections.
WOXO’s music format is country, but the station’s emphasis is local, with a daily call-in swap shop, local news and calendar events, local and NASCAR motor racing coverage, Red Sox baseball, and live broadcasts of Maine high school sports.
