Catherine ‘Kitty’ Murphy
1925 – 2009
PORTLAND — Catherine “Kitty” (Kane) Murphy, 84, died Monday, Nov. 30, at Fallbrook Woods.
She was born in Lewiston, July 3, 1925, a daughter of the late James and Rose Kane. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School and later attended Bates College. She worked at American Can Co. for many years. She was married to Leo Murphy Sr. for 54 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Jo Anne (Murphy) Hicks and her husband, Arthur, of Hanover; a daughter-in-law, Judith Murphy of Portland; grandsons, Nathan Hicks of South Portland, Benjamin Hicks of Westbrook and Patrick Murphy and his wife, Cathy, of Scarborough; granddaughters, Kelly Luce and her husband, Paul, of Portland and Jennifer Rudin and her husband, Jon, of Portland; her eight great-grandchildren, Brendan, Bret and Brook Murphy, Theodore and Finnian Rudin, Nicholas, Zackery and Jacob Luce; and two surviving brothers, James Kane of Gorham and Bernard Kane of Madrid, Spain.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo; a son, Leo “Butch” Murphy Jr.; a sister, Theresa Nason; and a brother, William Kane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and Fallbrook Woods Assisted Living for the care Catherine received in her final days. Special thanks to Margaret McNeil who cared for Kitty while she was living in Hanover with her daughter, Jo Anne.
