NAPLES — ‘Tis the season for spending time with family and friends, something that is happening both on and off the stage with Lake Region Community Theatre’s production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

Members of several families are taking part in the show that is all about finding the best in everyone.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” by Leigh Macmillen Hayes, is based on the classic children’s book by Barbara Robinson. It is directed by Louis Philippe.

In the show, preparations for a church’s annual Christmas pageant are thrown into confusion when the director breaks her leg and can’t finish the production. The ill-mannered Herdman children show up to church one day – just because they think there will be free snacks — and end up worming their way into the lead roles.

It’s destined to be the worst Christmas pageant ever. Or is it? Could it be that the “Greatest Story Ever Told” has something for everyone, even the Herdmans?

The show, recommended for kindergarten ages and up, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10; at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12; at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18; and at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Anyone bringing a nonperishable item for local food pantries will receive a raffle ticket for a gift basket filled with unique all-occasion items. Tickets may be purchased by calling Lake Region High School at 693-6221, extension 285; or at the Casco library, The Cool Moose in Bridgton and at the door.
