AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – Maine’s regular hunting seasons for big game such as moose and bear have ended. But the season continues for deer hunting with a muzzleloader and bird hunting.

The state game department says the regular firearms season for deer and bear ended on Nov. 28, as did the moose season in parts of southern Maine. Moose season ended in October in other parts of the state.

But hunting isn’t over altogether. Bird hunters can pursue ruffed grouse, pheasants and quail until Dec. 31. Waterfowl hunting remains open in December, with exceptions in some parts of the state.

Deer hunting with a muzzleloader is under way through Saturday in all of the state’ wildlife management districts. Starting next Monday, extended muzzleloader season continues for hunters in some districts.
