Nancy Ann Foxon Adams
1939 – 2009

RESTON, Va. — Nancy Ann Foxon Adams died of complications ensuing from breast cancer on Nov. 20, at her home in Reston, Va., with her family around her.

She was born in Lewiston in 1939, the daughter of Herbert and Cecilia (Tanguay) Foxon. Her family lived in Presque Isle and Portland and spent two years in Tucson, Ariz. They returned to Lewiston, where she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Seton Hill College, Greensburg, Pa., in 1960, and a master’s degree from Marymount University, Arlington, Va., in 1985.

In 1960, she moved to the Washington, D.C., area to work at C&P Telephone Co. In 1961, she married Hebron Adams. Five weeks after the birth of her second daughter, she and her family moved to England, where they lived for three and a half years, until their return to the United States in 1970. With her daughters in school, she returned to work in 1973, holding a variety of positions at Town and Country Bank (later Enterprise Bank), the Executive Desk, McCabe Associates and BDM Corporation and eventually opening Foxon Enterprises, a business services company that she ran for 22 years.

She was a member of the American Society of Notaries and the Network of Entrepreneurial Women and was a longtime volunteer for the World Folk Music Association. She was a crossword puzzle fiend and an avid knitter. Living in Arizona and England instilled a love of travel in her and she visited 44 states and 20 countries, most recently Mexico. She had a gift for friendship and liked nothing better than enjoying the company of those she loved.

She is survived by her husband of Reston; her daughters, Jennifer Adams of South Paris and Heather Miller of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister, Jane Maddocks of Gainesville, Va.; and three grandsons, Nathan, Aaron and Samuel Miller.
