LEWISTON — Some city streets will be blocked off Wednesday night to accommodate the holiday parade in Lewiston and Auburn.
Parts of Ash and Lisbon streets, and Ash Street in the block nearest to Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 p.m. for the Parade of Lights to stage, according to police. Drivers may use Bates and Canal streets to exit and enter the downtown area. Police request that motorists use the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge as passage through downtown areas.
Main Street will be closed to traffic just prior to the beginning of the parade, scheduled for 6 p.m., as well as the Longley Memorial Bridge and part of Court Street in Auburn. Traffic will be rerouted into the Lewiston downtown at Middle Street and traffic from Lisbon Street will be rerouted to Bates Street.
Lewiston police caution people visiting downtown businesses Wednesday between 5 and 6 p.m. to plan ahead for the increased traffic and blocked streets.
The municipal parking garage on the Park and Oak streets block will be open and accessible using the Ash Street entrance near the Post Office.
