The 2009-10 snow and riding season will wrap up on March 28, but not before a last hoorah. Black Mountain’s annual Family Fun weekend starts Saturday, March 27. This year’s events are still in the works, but past year’s have included a torchlight parade, a fire hose tug of war, an alpine relay race, a “backwards” race, a body-slide race in the tubing park, a You Make It-You Race It, and the classic Egg McMogul race. Family Fun weekend is nothing short of pure fun and entertainment with countless hilarious moments. The season culminates on Sunday afternoon, March 28 with the wildly popular Pond Skimming. Watch as both skiers’ and snowboarders’ talents are tested with attempts to clear the man-made slush pond at the base of the mountain. Spectators beware: viewers of this spectacle have been known to get wet in the past. Or throw on your own equipment and give it a whirl. Family Fun weekend is the perfect way to put the shutters on a great winter season. Don’t miss out.
