Jeffrey W. Guilford
1953 – 2009
PITTSFIELD — Jeffrey W. Guilford, 56, of Palmyra died Tuesday, Dec. 1, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jeff was born in Lewiston, Nov. 15, 1953, the son of the late Donald F. Guilford Sr. and Louise V. Wentworth Guilford. He was one of eight children brought up in the Norway area and lived in Palmyra since July 2001. He married Susanne Watrous Spencer on July 9, 2005.
He was educated in the Norway schools graduating from Oxford Hills High School, where he played sports. Growing up as a kid, he could name every player in the majors and give you their stats. When it came to baseball, he had a photographic memory. He was involved in the fantasy football, basketball and baseball leagues. He loved the Red Sox, Celtics, and the Patriots. He never missed a game. He lived his dreams of playing sports by coaching AAU teams in the area and doing some sports announcing at local games.
He was employed by Verso Paper in Jay. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially Megan, Matt, and his grandchildren. He loved playing golf and spent most of the summer months playing in tournaments around the state with three of his brothers. He was always the life of the party making everyone laugh. His goal was to get a smile out of all those who he came in contact with. He always made sure that before he would do anything fun, the house was cleaned, the laundry done, and a meal was cooked or at least planned.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne of Palmyra; his son, Toby Guilford and his companion, Carolyn Johnson, of Woodstock; his daughter, Tara Smith and her husband, Bo, of South Paris; his stepdaughter, Megan Spencer of Palmyra; his stepson, Matthew Spencer of Palmyra; his grandchildren, Owen and Audreyanna; his siblings, Tom Guilford and his companion, Cheryl Willey, of Harrison, Darlene Berry and her husband, Dexter, of Canton, Ritchie Guilford and his companion, Mary McCaslin, of Canaan, David Guilford and his wife, Laurenda, of Woodstock, Ga., Michael Guilford and his wife, Michelle, of Standish; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Donald (Peanut) F. Guilford Jr.; and his sister, Pamela Norton.
