RUMFORD — The streets of Rumford will be bright with Christmas lights, music and colorful floats Friday night as the annual Christmas in the Valley parade marches through the town. Then, on Saturday, people can do much of their Christmas shopping at the annual craft fair at Mountain Valley High School.

Parade organizer Cherri Crockett said 14 floats created by area businesses and nonprofits, along with 10 marching groups, including the Mountain Valley High School band and majorettes, have been lined up for the event.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. at Hannaford on Lincoln Avenue, then proceeds down Waldo Street, Rumford Avenue, Memorial Bridge, and ends at the foot of Congress Street where the tree will be lighted.

After the parade, at about 7 p.m., Santa Claus will be at the Rumford Fire Department where hot cocoa and treats for all children will be served. Greg Viger will take free photographs of youngsters with Santa.

The choir from the Holy Savior School is expected to sing Christmas carols from the steps of the adjacent municipal building.

Crockett said parade participants include the Citizens of the Year from Dixfield, Mexico and Rumford, Montell Kennedy, Sue Byam and John Kezal, respectively, along with one of the 6 Who Care recipients, Sharon Hutchins of Andover.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the annual craft fair with nearly 60 participants takes place at the high school. Along with the thousands of craft items offered, will be a kids corner with a variety of games, raffles, a cookie walk and a silent auction.

The River Valley Relay for Life Committee will serve breakfast and lunch, and Santa will be available again from 10 a.m. to noon. Free photos with Santa will also be available.

The craft fair is sponsored by the Chamber.
