RUMFORD — Police on Wednesday caught up to a Dixfield man wanted in Paris and Rumford for failing to appear in court since his conviction in 2002 on a theft charge, and for failing to pay more than $1,000 in restitution, Rumford police and court officials said Thursday.
Robert Lee Terrill, 26, of 17 Brian St., was arrested after police investigated a 3:15 a.m. break-in at Ralph’s Store on Cumberland Street and caught Terrill with store merchandise, Sgt. David Bean said.
Cpl. Douglas Maifeld charged Terrill with burglary, criminal mischief, theft and violation of bail conditions, and served a Rumford District Court warrant charging Terrill with failure to appear on a Dec. 12, 2007, charge of assault. Maifeld also served three Oxford County Superior Court warrants charging Terrill with failure to appear and unpaid restitution on a 2002 conviction of theft by unauthorized taking.
Unable to post $1,000 cash bail, Terrill remained behind bars Thursday night at Oxford County Jail in Paris.
According to Maifeld’s arrest report, he received a complaint at 3:17 a.m. of noise at the store and investigated.
Bean said Maifeld caught Terrill nearby carrying several bottles of beer and wine and a pack of cigarettes that were listed as being stolen from the store.
“All of the items were recovered and returned to the owner,” Bean said.
At the time of his arrest, Terrill claimed to be a transient who had only lived in Rumford for a short while, Bean said.
Due to the felony burglary charge, Terrill will be arraigned on March 12 in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.
A deputy clerk at Rumford District Court said Thursday afternoon that Terrill has been free on bail since the 2007 assault case, because he failed to appear in court, thereby keeping the bail bond active.
Superior Court Clerk Donna Howe said Thursday afternoon that Terrill still owes $1,500 to the 2002 theft victim.
