LIVERMORE FALLS — Police arrested two brothers Wednesday at a Jay residence in connection with the theft of money and a car from a relative’s Livermore Falls residence while he was in the hospital, police said.
Livermore Falls police arrested Duane Norris, 51, of 290 Plaisted Road, Jay, and James Norris, 41, a transient staying with his brother, on felony charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking and a misdemeanor charge of theft by unauthorized use, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
Jay police also seized 1¼ pounds of marijuana from the older brother’s
home while assisting Livermore Falls in executing a warrant there,
police said.
The victim got home from the hospital Wednesday to discover the burglary, missing money and the theft of his 2005 Toyota Corolla. He reported the crimes at his Strickland Loop home in Livermore Falls at 3:07 p.m., Steward said.
Livermore Falls police then obtained a warrant to search Duane Norris’ residence. Upon arrival at the Norris house, Jay police officer Mike Mejia observed marijuana through a window and could smell marijuana, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr.
said.
The men were taken into custody in Jay without incident and interviewed at the Livermore Falls Police Station. They were charged at the station, Steward said.
Livermore Falls police recovered the car but not the money, Steward said.
Jay police confiscated the remains of an indoor growing operation that included lights and pots, White said. “They found marijuana hanging and drying,” he added. They also seized drug paraphernalia and several baggies of marijuana throughout the residence, he said.
“Charges are pending and will be brought forward,” White said in regard to the marijuana seizure.
The two were being held Thursday morning on $10,000 cash bail at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
The felony charges are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and the misdemeanor charge by up to 364 days in jail.
