Track
Coach: Rick Kramer (8th year)
Last year’s record: Boys – 3rd in WMC; Girls – 5th in WMC
Boys
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Matt York (high jump), Kyle Eastman (mid-distance); Juniors – Eli Murphy (hurdles, sprints), Cameron Woodford (shot put), Frank Benedict (shot put).
Key losses: Tyrus Steinman, Dylan Lejoie, Edgar Satterfield, Collin Dudley.
Promising newcomers: Senior – Mike Whalen (sprints, jumps); Junior – Conrad Labbe (shot put); Sophomores – Zach Rawls (sprints), Robert Lowe (sprints); Freshmen – Jeremy Doane (distance), Warren Gagnon (distance).
Outlook: Expect the team to score well at the Western Maine Conference meet, with several athletes returning from last year’s squad. Scoring in the distance events, shot put, and jumps should improve. Developing a vaulter or two would really improve the Knights’ scoring.
Girls
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Tessa Theriault (hurdles, sprints), Nicole Neimi (sprints, mid-distance); Junior – Kendra Lobley (mid-distance).
Key losses: Brittney Bell, Kyley Hancock, Sierra Hackett, Meghan Perkins, Ashley Pilsbury-Coyne.
Promising newcomers: Seniors – Banu Parakenings (shot put, sprints), Kasandra Gile (mid-distance, sprints); Sophomores – Miranda Gile (mid-distance), Kasey McAllister, Jen Powell (sprints, jumps); Freshmen – Brittany Small (mid-distance), Morgan Little (shot put).
Outlook: Despite a relatively small team, scoring should be up at Poland this season. The Knights have several newcomers to the sport, which is good to replace lost talent, but how the team fares at bigger meets will be determined by how quickly the newcomers can adjust.
Coach’s comment: “Having the most balanced team in years allows me to expect our team achieve more personal goals, in result performing well in the WMCs and Class B State meets.” – Coach Rick Kramer
