Rain that began early Thursday morning and ended by about 10 a.m., caused the Seven-Mile Stream in Jay to overflow its banks and spill into agricultural fields on both sides of Morse Hill Road. A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray said Thursday night that from 1 to 1.5 inches of rain fell during the storm. But it was August-like temperatures in December that many people noticed. According to the weather service, a record-high Fahrenheit temperature of 68 degrees was set at Portland. That broke the old record of 55 degrees set in 1986.
