Back in June of this year I took a trip to see my mother. Along that trip I began noticing something different about the landscape. I kept observing but really not being able to see it. A long trip is around 1,300 miles one way. I had always marveled at our countryside, especially the Shenandoah Valley.
You can see the farmland, farmers growing their crops etc. Then it came to me somewhat: trees! Where are the trees?
I gave it some further thought and that was it. It wasn’t until I was on my way back that it began to sink in, the problem.
The government is always talking about greenhouse effects, etc. As I see government make new roads (interstate) the gaps between those roads are widely separated in most cases, and people complain about foresters cutting trees. So, why is our government so concerned about everybody else and not itself?
If government would simply practice what it preaches.
I know I have to get a permit to cut some trees down on my own land. Why won’t the state replant? They put that demand on those who make their living from forestry.
What say you?
