Elizabeth M. Merrill

1925-2009

SOUTH PARIS — Elizabeth “Betty” M. Merrill, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 6, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in South Portland on Feb. 4, 1925, the daughter of Isaac G. and Susan H. Harper Moore. She graduated from Paris High School with the Class of 1943. She married Ralph Merrill on Oct. 28, 1943.

She had been employed at the sled factory, the corn shop and the pickle factory. She worked at the Oxford County Registry of Deeds for over 30 years.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, entertaining and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of South Paris; a daughter, Jill Gay and her husband, Ernest, of South Paris; two grandsons, Richard Gay and his companion, Sue Gram, of South Paris, and Robert Gay and wife, Jamie, of South Paris; two great-granddaughters, Ashlee and Julia; a niece, Carole Moore; and a nephew, Richard Wawrzyniak.

She was predeceased by a half-sister, Freda Wawrzyniak; and a half-brother, Ceylon Seeley.
