RUMFORD — For the last three years, Janet Law, an employee of the Dietary Department at Rumford Hospital, has created enough red holiday stockings that each baby born at the hospital in December is carried home in one.

She makes them extra large so that the babies fit right into the stockings. Birthing Center nurses write the babies’ names on the white cuff and off they go.

“Parents are thrilled with the stockings,” said Birthing Center Nurse Manager Joette Carlton. “They love to have their baby’s pictures taken in them.”

For many years, Lena Drapeau, a Rumford Hospital auxiliary member, crafted the stockings each year, and now the needle has passed to Law.
