Edmond J. Martineau
1928 – 2009

SOUTH PARIS — Edmond J. “Edmo” Martineau, 81, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, where he had spent the last six weeks. He was a resident of Roxbury Road in Mexico.

He was born in Mexico, March 23, 1928, a son of the late Albert and Florence (Rodrique) Martineau. He attended Mexico schools. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army as a private from 1950 to 1951.

He worked as a pipefitter and water treatment operator for Boise Cascade Paper Mill, until his retirement in 1986. He also served as a fireman in the mill.

He was a 60-year member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion and was also a member of the LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, Fraternal Order of Eagles and was formerly active in the Rumford Horseshoe Club Oxie Bowling League.

He loved life and dancing. He and his wife were known as “The Dancers.” He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. He and his wife, Margaret enjoyed winters at Treasure Island in Florida.

He was married in Dixfield on April 27, 1952 to Margaret Godish, who survives of Mexico.

Other survivors include four daughters, Susan Richard and her husband, Roger, of Rumford, Sally Stone and her husband, Jerry, of Dixfield, Sharon Parr and her husband, Greig, of Rumford and Barbara Harmon and her husband, Phil, of Clarence Center, N.Y.; two brothers, Arthur Martineau and his wife, Doris, of Mexico and Norman Martineau and his wife, Lucille, of Rumford; grandchildren, Alicia Richard, Jason Richard and his wife, Darcy, Steven Stone, Ashley Stone, Libby Parr, McKenzie Parr, Andrew Harmon and Gabrielle Harmon; and a step-great-grandchild, Corbin Arsenault.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Yvonne McDonald and Lorette Tonolini; and a brother, Louis Martineau.
