PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – A teacher’s aide who brought an unloaded gun to a Portland school last month has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm on public school property.
WGME-TV says Beth Bergeron entered the plea on Tuesday.
Police say Bergeron didn’t know the handgun was in a swim bag she brought to school on Nov. 18 until a student saw the weapon in the clear, see-through bag. Bergeron immediately took the bag to her car and reported the incident to officials at Riverton Elementary School.
Bergeron, who’s 49, was placed on paid leave and eventually resigned on Friday.
