RUMFORD — Three of four Mexico volunteer firefighters accused of alcohol-related crimes at an underage drinking party on Oct. 25 in Rumford pleaded guilty on Tuesday morning in Rumford District Court.
Joseph Bruns, 20, and Justin Tidswell, 20, both of Rumford, and Seth Marshall, 20, of Mexico, admitted to one charge each of possession of alcohol by a minor, according to their court documents. They were then fined $200 each.
Benjamin Sarle, 19, of Rumford, who was charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol and possession of alcohol by a minor, denied the civil possession charge and pleaded not guilty to the criminal charge, according to his court documents.
As a result, a jury trial on Sarle’s case was scheduled for Feb. 8 in Rumford District Court.
Reacting to the charges on Oct. 27, Mexico fire Chief Gary Wentzell placed Bruns, Tidswell, Marshall and Sarle on probation for 60 days. To avoid suspension, that meant they had to stay out of any other trouble during those 60 days.
Wentzell also said that any further disciplinary action against the young men was pending the outcome of their court cases.
Contacted late Tuesday afternoon, Wentzell said he wasn’t yet aware of the court outcomes and wouldn’t comment.
